What is a Hackathon?

A Hackathon is an event where practitioners meet up and collaborate on solutions for future complex challenges. With point of departure in specific challenges, Hackathons evolves around intense teamwork and prototyping, having innovation and action in mind. Hackathons has its roots from engineering, but to be able to produce holistic, sustainable and feasible solutions broad interdisciplinary teams of disciplines are needed.

Interdisciplinary Teams

Research have shown that complex problems and future sustainable solutions must be solved in interdisciplinary teams. By bringing together a wide range of disciplines, innovative, creative ideas and solutions can be created. Furthermore, the interdisciplinary constellations prepare you for the future labor market, providing you with tools, methods and procedures for how to approach, participate and share knowledge in interdisciplinary teams in the future. A competence much valued in the industry.

Structure

The Hackathon will consist of a pre-workshop day, three days of intensive teamwork and a post-Hackathon presentation day.

Grundfos has highlighted two overall themes for this Hackathon: Cooling in large buildings and Water intake, and have presented the following challenges possible to choose between on the first day of the event:

  • How to build intelligent water intake solutions for Africa
  • Building long distance industrial M2M communication
  • Designing a rooftop system for vertical gardening
  • Optimizing irrigation solutions with drone inputs
  • Collecting user inputs for building comfort
