The vision of the UNESCO Chair in PBL is to contribute to a sustainable development by providing, developing and diffusing PBL-methodologies for engineering and science education world-wide.
In the heart of sustainability is a wish to obtain and maintain an economic, ecologic and social balance that can provide a secure platform for the next generations. In regard to engineering and science education, this calls for a flexible learning philosophy that can be appropriated to different educational institutions and is suited for the ever changing and complex challenges of the global society.
The aim of the UNESCO Chair in PBL is to gather experiences and continuously develop PBL to provide such a framework by establishing a global society for researchers and academic staff working with:
- PBL in Engineering and science education; focusing on PBL as a base for industrial development and intercultural synergy (the economic and social dimensions of sustainability).
- PBL and sustainability; focusing on PBL as a base for integrating social responsibility and environmental awareness in education (the ecological and social dimensions of sustainability).
Within these fields of study, the UNESCO Chair will initiate and take responsibility for research and development activities, educational programs and consultancy activities, and establishment of a global network for international cooperation and exchange of experiences.
