UCPBL Profile

The overall objective of this UNESCO Chair is to create a global society for researchers and academic staff working with PBL. This includes research and development activities, educational programs, consultancy activities, and the establishment of a global network for international cooperation and exchange of experiences.

The UNESCO Chair is responsible for the choice and presentation of views contained on this website, which are not necessarily those of UNESCO and do not commit the UNESCO organization.

The UNESCO Chair in Problem Based Learning in Engineering Education continues activities which were commenced in the  UICEE Centre for Problem Based Learning (UCPBL). For previous activities in the UCPBL, please visit this homepage: http://www.ucpbl.org/

The UNESCO Chair in Problem Based Learning is based at Aalborg University, Denmark, known world-wide for its successful educational approach based on problem based project work. Due to more than 30 years of experience in utilizing PBL in Engineering Education, an increasing number of universities and engineering schools throughout the world are seeking consultancy and cooperation with Aalborg University.

The establishment of the UNESCO Chair is therefore a timely opportunity to merge the efforts into one organizational structure aiming to promote and support PBL interests worldwide.

Problem Based Learning and Project Based Learning (PBL) have reached enormous popularity all over the world. At the same time, the label of PBL is used to cover an amazing diversity of educational practices. The various PBL models, however, all share the focus on learning through investigating real world problems rather than traditional subject based teaching.

The UNESCO Chair is a member of Global University Network of Innovation (GUNI) www.guni-rmies.net
