Aida Guerra
My name is Aida Guerra and I am a Portuguese PhD student. I have a degree in Science Education which allows me to teach biology and geology. Therefore my first professional experience was teaching middle and secondary school students. I got this first degree at the Faculty of Sciences of Oporto University (Portugal), comprising classes at several departments (Biology, Geology and also Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry).
After my first degree, I got the Master degree also in Science Education, specifically in Problem Based Learning (PBL), Environment Education, and Geology, in the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Sciences of Oporto University. This allowed me to increase my work experience and knowledge beyond teaching and learning processes in Science. I’ve become also an Educational Researcher inside and outside the classroom. I am an associated researcher at the Center of Geology of the Faculty of Sciences of Oporto University (Oporto, Portugal). My main areas of interest are Educational Research, Teaching and Learning Methodologies, Earth Sciences, as well as Environmental Education and PBL.
Currently, I am a PhD student at the Faculty of Sciences of Oporto University integrated in a program about Science Education and Divulgation, and a visitor student at the PBL PhD program in the Department of Development and Planning at the Aalborg University to increase my knowledge about PBL for my PhD project and professional life as well as share experiences of the work I have been doing until now.
Liliana Fernández-Samacá
I am Liliana Fernández-Samacá, Assistant professor at Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia and PhD student of Engineering at Universidad del Valle, Colombia. I have been three months as guest PhD student at UNESCO Chair in Problem-Based Learning in Aalborg University, Denmark. This has been a wonderful experience for me, a great opportunity for my professional life and an important contribution for my PhD research.
My PhD proposal seeks developing a PBL approach for linear control courses of Electronics Engineering at Universidad del Valle. Five objectives were defined in this proposal. Visiting Aalborg University helps me to develop these objectives because I have known new research methodologies and resources that I can use in this stage of my work in order to observe, in detail, results of my research.
I have had the opportunity of taking PhD courses and sharing my work with researchers and PhD students from many places around the world. And, I am writing two papers about PBL with professors and students of Aalborg University. Also, I have known about Denmark, its culture and its very nice people. People of Aalborg University always have supported me in the all things that I have needed.
Now, I have a different point of view about the PBL and my contribution in this field… and, of course, I have many new friends.
